Chapter 9 The Worlds of Islam

Islam emerged from middle eastern civilizations. It was the most rapid growing religion in Western Asia. The one who created this new religion was Muhammad Abdullah. There were five pillars of Islam. The first was the heart of the Islamic message. The second was virtual prayer that was done five times a day. The third was almsgiving which meant that there needed to be support for the needy and the community. The fourth was a month of fasting during the time of Ramadan. Fasting didn't only mean food, it also meant no drinking of anything or any kind of sexual activity. The fifth and last one was a pilgrimage to Mecca. Everyone dressed in white and remembered the history of Islam. The Arab people took over Byzantium which was the eastern part of Rome after the empiric empire fell. People converted to Islam and had to go through changes and sometimes they were dramatic. Islam still made women inferior to their husbands. The men had the most power like in a typical society. The good women always obeyed. This Islam civilization was also a place for exchanges of goods. Islam was a big part of the Afro Eurasian world. It spread very rapidly and largely.
